Dr. Dmitri Young is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco, and a Staff Research Psychologist at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. His research focuses on understanding the genetic, neurobiological, and behavioral underpinnings of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), with particular attention to the neurological basis of trauma-related threat sensitivity and impulsivity. Research indicates that both threat sensitivity and impulsivity are connected to adverse outcomes such as aggression and risky behaviors in individuals with PTSD. Therefore, Dr. Young’s goal is to develop empirically supported, biologically based, personalized treatments that reduce harm and improve quality of life for those with PTSD. He has served as the Principal Investigator on multiple funded projects supported by the Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Institute of Mental Health, and other agencies.
